The Society of Professional Journalists Northern California board honored SFNNA member Central City Extra for feature storytelling in its print/text small publication division. Tom Carter’s “Birds of the Tenderloin” piece was “a vivid depiction of an Audubon bird census taker as she travels her route in a San Francisco district ordinarily depicted as impoverished and bleak,” SPJ said in a press release.
